Group C Revised Race Calendar for 2010

Group C/GTP 2010 Calendar & to return Le Mans - a race on the full Circuit de la Sarthe ahead of the Le Mans 24 Hours will form the centrepiece of next year’s revitalised six-event Group C/GTP Racing series.

Group C/GTP has secured the prestigious support slot at Le Mans for the second time in three seasons.

The 45-minute race will take place on the morning of June 12, 2010, in the run-up to the start of the 24 Hours.

Group C/GTP race series director Bob Berridge said: “We are delighted to have been invited back to Le Mans and to be working with the Motor Racing Legends organisation to put on what I’m sure will be a great event. A race at Le Mans is the fixture all our competitors want and we will bring a large and varied grid. We intend to put on a good show for the quarter of a million sportscar aficionados who will be making their annual pilgrimage to La Sarthe.”

The Le Mans event will be round three of the 2010 Group C/GTP Racing series. The schedule will kick off at Spa-Francorchamps and finish at Paul Ricard, and include visits to the historic sportscar venues of  the Nurburgring for the Eifelrennen meeting and Brands Hatch.

The Group C/GTP Racing series is undergoing a change of format for next season. With the exception of the 45-minute Le Mans fixture, each event will comprise two one-hour races, one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday.  “We want to maintain the endurance element of the series and give the opportunity for two drivers to share a car,” said Berridge. “At the same time, the format allows one driver to race alone.”

Group C/GTP will also link up with the US Historic Sportscar Racing organisation. The European-based competitors will be invited to take part in HSR’s Daytona and Sebring fixtures at the end of the season.

Grids of between 20 and 30 cars are expected next year by the Group C/GTP organisers. A wide range of machinery is slated to compete, from Porsches and Jaguars to Nissans, Sauber-Mercedes and Lancias.
