Donington Historic Festival
The first Donington Historic Festival took place on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2011 where the race action saw more than 300 historic racing cars from the 1930s to the 1980s, battling for victory. There was of course Group C/GTP, GT40s and Ferrari GTOs, Touring Cars from the 70s and 80s, pre-War Bentleys, Bugattis and Alfa Romeos and much, much more.
The Donington Historic Festival is a major new event on the historic racing calendar and it was a great opportunity for Group C to be invited to this exciting new historic festival.
On behalf of Group C I would particularly like to thank the organising team of Donington Historic Festival, Duncan Wiltshire and the HSCC for a fantastic event. We wish them every success for the future and look forward to working with them again next year!
WOW! What a magnificent season opener for Group C Racing.
The sun was shining and everyone was in extremely good spirits, all enhanced by the mass of spectators and a great atmosphere. Especially after the qualifying session on Saturday afternoon which saw some seriously quick times being set, resulting in Berridge on pole position with a lap time of 59.001, the father and son combo of Peter and Andy Meyrick second on the grid for C2, followed on the second row by Law and Pearson/Lockie.
Congratulations to winners of the Race which took place on Sunday in C1 - 1st Bob Berridge, 2nd Justin Law and Katsu Kubota. C2 winners – 1st Peter and Andy Meyrick, 2nd John Pearson and Calum Lockie, 3rd Duncan McKay and Robin Ward.
Well done to you all!
Our commiserations must go to Stefano Rosina and Giorgio Mondini who after gaining 2nd position on pole were unable to race after engine troubles, Nick Chester, Eric Rickenbacher, David Mercer, Paul whight, Andy Wallace, Amanda Stretton and Jonathan Fay who all suffered mechanical woes.
A big thank you to all those who made the effort to attend the Donington Historic Festival and for your commitment and enthusiasm. I hope you all enjoyed the good weather and great racing, its good to have Donington firmly back on the calendar.
Over the weekend we had an unprecedented amount of positive comments on how good it was to see so many Group C cars back on the track and such a wide variety of cars.
Results are now available on the Group C website www.groupcracing.com, more details, points and pictures will be available over the next few days… If you have any video footage or pictures from the weekend I would be grateful if you could send them to me please for the website.
