Algarve Historic Festival October 21 - 23
This year the Algarve International Circuit played host to the third Algarve Historic Festival, featuring more than 320 race cars from the 1930s right up to the 1990s.
Including a representative entry of 18 Group C Cars for the final event in the season’s calendar.
On behalf of Group C I would particularly like to thank the organising team of Francisco Santos Eventos, Francisco Santos, Paulo Pinheiro, Parkalgar and the AIA for a memorable event.
Free Practice took place on Thursday followed by two qualifying sessions spread over Friday and Saturday with Katsu Kubota and Hideki Yamauchi taking pole position with a best lap time of 1m36.565. Followed by Bob Berridge in the Mercedes C11 with a 1.36.646. Row 2 on the grid was taken by Peter and Andy Meyrick and Roger Wills in his Courage C26S.
Race – First news of the day was that both Kubota and Yamauchi had been unwell overnight and were forced to withdraw from the race which promoted Berridge to pole and Meyrick to the front row. After a few tussles between the front runners, Berridge maintained the lead and took the victory along with the C1 Championship. Well done Bob!
A first podium for Wills who took 2nd (congratulations), followed by another first podium with Kempnich taking 3rd in his Porsche 956. In C2 Peter and Andy Meyrick romped home to take victory in C2 and the title of the C2 Championship, Congratulations!
Fastest Laps in the Race went to:
Bob Berridge in C1 with a 1m39.763
Andy Meyrick in C2 with a 1m40.263
Congratulations to winners of the Race on Sunday in C1 –
1st Bob Berridge
2nd Roger Wills
3rd Russell Kempnich
Congratulations to winners of the Race on Sunday in C2 –
1st Peter Meyrick and Andy Meyrick

Our commiserations must go to Henrik Lindberg, Kent Abrahamson, Don Miles, and Richard Bateman who all suffered from mechanical issues during the race on Sunday. Also to Adrian Watt and Mike Donovan who suffered breakages in qualifying and were unable to join the race on Sunday. And finally to Rupert Clevely who narrowly missed taking his first Group C podium after being hampered with a drive through penalty, better luck next year!
A massive thank you to all of you who attended the Algarve Historic Festival and for your continued commitment and enthusiasm. We hope you have had a fantastic season and look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
