Group C/GTP at Goodwood Festival of Speed

17 Group C/GTP cars "star" in their own 25th celebration category

Honorary club Patron Derek Bell together with fellow Rothmans Porsche team members Jochen Mass and Vern Schuppan were the original Porsche star drivers representing Group C, as Group C's 25th anniversary was celebrated as a major attraction at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, held over the weekend of 22nd - 24th June 2007.

Derek drove the first Rothmans car to be built, chassis 001 and Vern drove the 1987 Le Mans winning Porsche 962, one of several cars brought over by the factory museum. Meanwhile, Jochen Mass was in the all conquering Mercedes C11 from 1990.

Ricardo Patrese was naturally re-united with a Lancia and Ray Mallock drove Roger Bennington's Aston Martin Nimrod, originally from Le Mans '84.

Regular club racers included crowd favourite Justin Law, returning again in his Jaguar XJR12, in which he was fatsest of all two years ago. Paul Whight was there in his Aston Martin AMR-1, Mark Sumpter, driving the ex-Martyn Konig Skoal Bandit 956B, Henry Pearman in the first Group C Jaguar XJR-6 to be built and HSR race winner and previous owner of the Andy Purdie RLR Porsche 962 - Murray Smith, driving the Nissan R90CK-05.

The Group C / GTP hospitality bus served as the centre point to meet, and was positioned alongside the Porsche factory's unit.

There were a total of 17 Group C cars starring in the feature, further details of which are included in race reports, under Goodwood Festival of Speed and within the pdf press release at the base of this page.
